There is no levelling up. You have to eat and drink to survive. Your gear deteriorates quickly, and you have stamina to contend with too. You fall off a cliff you die. You run in to an angry boar you die. You meet an angry islander, you might not die, but meet their buddy and don't have enough stamina left to flee you die. You climb half way up a cliff face and think you can hang around and think about you will loose grip and die. You will die a lot in this game.
